If You Are Going to San Francisco

Friday, February 27th, 2009

One of the most vibrant and picturesque cities in the United States, San Francisco attracts a lot of tourists every year. San Francisco offers a significant number of cultural attractions and world famous landmarks, all in the surroundings of impressive natural beauty.

The first settlement here was built in the end of the XVI century by the Spanish conquers and received its name in honor of Saint Francisc.
Now San Francisco is called the pearl of the Western Coast. It’s a unique mix of the old architecture (of the Victorian period) and the modern buildings. The city lies on the hills surrounding the ocean. San Francisco is on of the most poetic cites in the United States, the city of bohemia with its special fleur and atmosphere. The city has its nickname – Frisco.
San Francisco is known for its wonderful food, intensive nightlife and its glorious views. Golden Gate Bridge is one of the world-known symbols of San Francisco and the view of the sunset is the best here. The bridge is 210m high.

Every month of the year there is something interesting happening in San Francisco – festivals and different cultural events are carried out throughout the year. As for climate and weather, of course, summer months are the best choice for visiting this city, but you won’t mistake if you choose another season for traveling. San Francisco isn’t a cold city anyway. The closest in time events – Holiday Festival: Great Dickens Christmas Fair, Celebration of Craftswomen, Holiday Festival of Lights, Marin Art and Garden Center and Macy’s Union Square Tree Lighting Ceremony. All they take place in December.

So, what else is worth to see in San Francisco?

Except the above-mentioned Golden Gate Bridge another world famous symbol of the city is Alcatraz. It’s the rock with the former prison, which can be called the best-known prison on earth. This prison is situated on an island in the middle of San Francisco Bay. Now it’s a museum exhibiting objects made by notorious inmates, historic photographs and documents, escape materials and inmate artwork; items used by officers including correctional materials when Alcatraz was a federal penitentiary from 1934-1963; military prison period materials from 1859-1934; and the American Indian occupation of 1969 -1971.

Aquarium of the Bay is also a very interesting place for visit in San Francisco. It was opened in 1996. Now it’s a unique educational and entertainment facility dedicated to the rich and diverse aquatic life of the San Francisco Bay and its surrounding waters.
One of San Francisco’s main retail and cultural centers is Union Square. Set aside as a park in 1850 and named before the start of the Civil War as a tribute to the frequent demonstrations in support of the Union troop, the park got a major renovation and restoration in 2002.
Another sightseeing in San Francisco is Coit Tower. It’s 210ft (60m) high and crowns the top of Telegraph Hill. The tower was built as a monument to the firefighters of San Francisco.

To confirm the reputation of the intellectual city it’s enough to name Berkeley – one of the most prestigious Universities of USA is located near San Francisco.
So, there is enough to see and to take part in San Francisco – just don’t miss it!

The $30 K Wedding Alternative

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

Thwart wedding bell apprehension when you explore your nuptial options.

The mayhem of a marital union can evoke enough tension to make the happiest bride say, “I don’t.” A second wedding, overbearing family personalities, cultural differences and financial restrictions are just a few reasons people skirt the mega marriage ceremony. For the woman, who has never envisioned the fairytale wedding, the ill trepidation of walking a mile of aisle can morph those butterflies into caterpillars.

According to a market report released by the National Association of Certified Wedding Coordinators (NACWC), the average cost for a wedding in America ranges between $20,000 to $25,000. Over the last four years, the cost of tying the knot has increased by 18 percent. As people wait to get married, they are tergiversating the expense. Annually, an approximated 15 percent of newlyweds pass on the wedding circus and forego the City Hall route.

Prior to actualizing, you do not wish to produce the “event” of the year, (your wedding) there is a 5-letter word that will need nullifying, g-u-i-l-t. Family guilt is one of the most potent forces of resistance to wedding rights of refusal. Unless your family insists on doling the expenditures for the big day and you are 100 percent confident that the stress will be well worth the backlash – resist the temptation. In collaboration with your spouse to-be, consider your other wedding alternatives.

An Intimate Wedding Union

Less is more. A low-key wedding can be just as memorable and meaningful as an elaborate wedding event. If your guest list includes a total of 50-75 friends and family members, figure $5,000 to $10,000 for a sit-down dinner. The intimacy of family, close friends melded with an exchange of vows can set the stage for a magical wedding event.

The ideal location can be simplified if you don’t mind being hitched at home. Beware of losing sight of the budget especially, if finances are an issue. Bringing in additional tables, seating, lighting et al can add up – rapidly. Concerning other reception venues, do not rule out places like your family’s place of worship (church or synagogue), country clubs, or social clubs/lodges.

Sponsorship

Sponsorship has its privileges. If you can find local businesses to donate their products and services in return for advertising at your reception, sponsorship may be a consideration. More couples are bartering a bit of promotion along with their nuptials, for complimentary or discounted goods and services.

Not all vendors will chomp at the bit to sponsor your special day. Certain vendors will appreciate the benefit of branding their company, directly to a target audience. Plan to approach a minimum of 100 vendors. Smaller and newer companies are more apt to participate. The ideal sponsorship situation is a win-win, for all. In example, the media buy for advertising costs 3-4 times the cost of the average sponsorship.

Sample Wedding Sponsorship Letter

Dear Marketing Department:

We’re seeking sponsorship in exchange for media coverage and free publicity. On Halloween, we are getting married in Las Vegas, Nevada. As recent college graduates, we’re a young couple with mortgage and car payments. As a court reporter, I possess many media contacts for top quality publicity in exchange for various items for our wedding.

Our wedding ceremony is being held at the Bellagio Hotel, an exceptional venue to showcase your business and demonstrate your company’s generosity. The details of our day are simple. Our guests are the perfect target audience, young single professionals.

Thank you for your consideration, I can be reached at 345.555.6666.

Appreciatively,

Mary Budgetwright

The Elopement

Elopement is self-indulgent bliss. There is nothing more relaxing then a well-planned elopement. Select an island: Kabel Santorini, Portofino, Turks and Caicos, Aruba, or wherever you prefer. If your preference is to remain in the states, conduct a search on Google.com, using the key word combination, “place to elope,” will return some 8,000 possibilities.

Then work backwards, set a target budget for your wedding/honeymoon and let the destination dictate your wedding. Bear in mind, the average cost of a honeymoon is almost four thousand dollars. Without the added expense of a wedding, hopefully you can afford to spend a little more on your romantic getaway. Once you and your fiancé have agreed on a destination, take 1 – 2 weeks to conduct a cost analysis and logistic research.

7-Top Reasons People Elope

  • Affordability
  • Timesavings
  • Maintain serenity
  • Alleviate stress
  • Exhilaration
  • Minimal planning
  • The freedom of tradition

The Cocktail Soirée

Think outside of the bridal gown. A low-lost location, Veuve Clicquot, finger food and guests clad in casual attire is a nice way to celebrate your connubial union. Moreover, a historic landmark, a public garden or the local art gallery may feature inexpensive rental fees. With the cocktail party, all the elements that go into planning a full-blown wedding are unnecessary (fittings, rehearsal dinners, transportation, gift registration, et cetera).

Regardless of your marriage ceremony decision – it a choice you will have to live with for the rest of your life. But then again, after you are married, you have the rest of your life to plan the perfect celebration.

Toronto Hotels

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

Toronto has earned the distinction of being the most diverse city in the world, with over a hundred spoken languages. The third most livable city in the world, it is considered a thriving, bustling, vivacious location. The energy of Toronto is formidable. Those who live there love it. Those who visit don’t want to leave. Such is the charm of this city without boundaries – metaphorically speaking, of course.

Visitors to Toronto come knowing they will fall in love with it. They need a place to put their feet up and enjoy the vast expanse of emotion, landscape, business, enterprise and poetry that is Toronto. Quite natural for a city like this, a huge assortment of cozy and comfy accommodations is on hand. From five-star comfort to more down-to-earth variations such as bed and breakfasts, it’s all there. Whether it’s for business or fun that one goes to Toronto, there is always an ideal place to stay.

However, Toronto’s popularity with travelers, both for business and fun alike, has inflated the prices of accommodation. Notable downtown hotels charge a premium from April to October, which is considered high season. There is a 5% accommodation tax and 7% GST, all refundable to visitors. The proximity of hotels to the subway and surface transport is a major consideration while looking for decent and affordable hotel accommodations. It offers backpackers a tremendous opportunity to get intimate with the city without draining the wallet. Additionally, there are quite a few choices not too far from Pearson International Airport, in the gorgeous Parklands area in the east and in the cities on the fringes of Toronto. The area supposedly offers 32,000 hotel rooms for rent, so travelers of every kind will find something to fit their needs. Of course, one will certainly have to state those needs very clearly. For instance, if one needs a smoke-free room, then it will have to be specifically requested. Bed and breakfast is also a very popular concept in Toronto.

Proximity to the business district, world-class entertainment centers or shopping malls is one of the major criteria for the selection for hotel rooms. The sports and entertainment complex is an attractive destination for people who love sports. This venue also offers rooms that overlook the playing field.

These are examples of what is available in Toronto, both for the laid-back traveler with little to spend and the discerning one for whom luxury is a must.

“Any good photography is a successful synthesis of technique and art.” – Andreas Feininger

This article will attempt to help you come to a clearer understanding of the photography schools and colleges available, what they can offer you in terms of photo and arts education, and guide you towards investigating more about specific schools and where you can find out more information.

Photography SchoolsPhotography is a wonderful choice when it comes to a career. Photography is a versatile path that allows you to specify within the degree, and move from different types of photography within your lifetime. From magazine covers to exotic locations to local newspapers, a career in photography will allow you to pick and choose exactly what you want to photograph. However, a career in photography doesn’t happen with well wishes and hopes…you have to work to get there! So where do you begin in your search for photography schools? Right here!

You’ll have to learn about the photography business, learn how to deal with copyright issues and information, manage your photo porfolio and how to work with others in the field. There are many courses in the field of photography taught at many of the schools, teaching you in a variety of areas including:

* Photographic equipment

* Photographic processes

* Photograph techniques

* Color theory

* Special skills

* Digital imaging and photo processing

There are many many more fields available when it comes to your career path in photography, the above were simply some examples.

If you’re passionate about photography and want to pursue this versatile career, it’s important that you take the time to learn from experienced professionals that can guide you in your efforts to pursue professional photography, motion picture and video photography, visual journalism, and thinks like visual communications. What’s great about attending photography schools nationwide is that you dont’ have to begin an expert, you begin a beginner! Many of you are pursuing this field because you have a natural eye for photography, and that’s great – but maybe you’re just developing one. That’s great too! What you probably didn’t know is that photography school will teach you much more than simply how to snap a few brief pictures and dip em in developer. They teach you the scientific processes of film, chemistry, optics, color theory, lighting rations, and digital and computer skills.

You’ll also find collegues and students at your school that share your passion, talents, and skill and want to join in mutual efforts to further your careers. Here are a few photography school frequently asked questions that might help you!

* What is the objective of many photography schools?

* What types of photography might I choose to go into?

* What type of school should I look for?

* What are some of the top schools in the US?

What is the objective of many photography schools?

The objective (or the objective I believe is crucial to selecting a school) of many is to develop photographers that are technically and professionally sound, enabling them to pursue any photographic field and compete in the job marketplace.

What types of photography might I choose to go into?

There are many different types of photography fields, including fasion photography, digital photography, advertising photography, editorial photography, documentary style, wedding photography, portrait photography, or photo technician style work. You’ll be prepared to do any of these with a solid education at a photo college or school.

What type of school should I look for?

My recommendation is a school that teaches nothing but photography! Obviously affordability is important, but a photo only institute is a great way to go!

What are some of the top schools in the US?

There are several wonderful photography schools, but some of ones we’ll choose to highlight are Brooks Institute of Photography and the Art Institute of Colorado. For a more detailed list of Photography schools and information, please click here or continue browsing this article.

Brooks is a world leader when it comes to visual arts and photographic education. You’ll want to find a photography school that helps to meet career oriented needs that you establish before you search. You’ll want one with experience in the field for a long period of time, not just a hokey internet college.

You want want that can offer you a chance to broaden your resume through internships and opportunities. The joy of this career is that you get to turn your photographic ambition into something that pays the bills and you love to do every single day! Who wouldn’t want that! I hope this article has proved even a little helpful, and that you’ll consider going into the wonderful field of photography!

Prostate Gland Function – the Natural Way

Friday, February 20th, 2009

Medical professionals call an enlarged prostate benign prostate hyperplasia, or BPH. This means that the prostate, a mass which envelops the urethra and is situated under the bladder, swells and this can impair and perhaps block urinary flow. The prostatic gland grows with age and can lead to several complaints such as troubles passing urine, reduced urinary stream, and also the retention of residual urine inside the bladder. Night time frequency and even recurrent urinary tract inflammation are some additional symptoms that can result from prostatic engorgement.

BPH – Mainstream Therapies: – Men in their 60’s commonly develop prostate enlargement. A yearly testing is urged for each man in their fifties and beyond, even should no symptoms occur, for the upkeep of prostate gland health. Look For medical intervention at once if blood appears in the urine or if unable to micturate. Surgery or medication are standard treatments for benign prostate hyperplasia. Regrettably, surgery may result in further symptoms such as erection dysfunction or inability to control micturition. Hypertension drugs and medicines which shrink the prostate are frequently prescribed for better prostate function, but medication will frequently have unwanted repercussions. Which options are recommended? Problems with a Swollen Prostate? Discover Holistic Solutions to a Healthier Prostate Gland

To encourage improved prostate gland health and reduce the problems brought about by an enlarged prostate, various remedies may be suggested. Swelling is controlled by the remedy Afican pygeum, providing relief from the more annoying symptoms. Formulated from the fruit of a tree native to southern Africa, African pygeum has been employed on a large scale by the Europeans for many years as a therapy to encourage improved prostate health.

Dietary factors such as a decrease in the ingestion of fats may help, and in addition excercising more, the pressure in the prostate may be alleviated through ejaculating more regularly, it is also advisable to avoid sitting for a prolonged period. Taking over the counter anti-histamines or even decongestant medicines may exacerbate any symptoms of a swollen prostate, take these with care. Additional recommendations include to cut out having something to drink close to retiring for the night to cut down frequent urination overnight, and reducing alcoholic beverages and caffeine intake may also be useful. Moreover, there are additional natural formulae used to improve prostate function — these include the herb saw palmetto, starflower oil, the chemical element selenium, and lycopene, which can be extracted from tomatoes. Be sure to check with your doctor prior to beginning any alternative treatment of an enlarged prostate gland.

The Selous Game Reserve: The Birds

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

The Selous is known for its vast size and huge numbers of big game; however, as in common with much of Tanzania, the Selous Game Reserve enjoys a prolific bird life. Without doubt the mighty Rufiji River is responsible for the huge variety of birds drawn to this area. This huge river with its ever changing pattern of sandbanks, oxbow lakes, lagoons, islands and channels is a magnet for many animals and especially the birds.

The Selous Reserve’s most visited lagoons are the Nzerkela and Tagalala and these lagoons are home to, storks, herons, terns and many migrant waders. The lovely-pinked back pelicans are often seen here as are the great white pelicans. When the water levels lower during the dry season the fish become consecrated in this shrinking environment and waterfowl are attracted to feast on this easy pray. Egyptian geese and the White faced Whistling Duck are common at these times.

The main river provides an setting for the specialist birds. Along the sandbanks are many white-headed lapwing, this unusual bird can be seen along the many tributaries that feed this Rufiji River. The star of the river is the African skimmer as is skims the surface of the water with its oversize lower jaw snapping its beak shut as it touches a fish.

Along the lagoons the beautiful Fish Eagle can be seen and its haunting cries echo over the still waters. The fish eagle will not only eat fish but also prey on the young of the Egyptian geese. The spectacular Borassus palms along the river provide ideal vantage points for the fish eagle and nest sites for the Egyptian geese. The palm swift also uses these trees and glues its eggs to the palm leaves with its own saliva.

A favorite of mine is the pied kingfisher and is an ever preset member in the wetlands of the Selous Reserve. It can be easily spotted as it hovers over the waters and then plunges to the river for its pray; its relative the Giant kingfisher is much less common.

The wooded area’s of the river are home to two nocturnal species. The Pel’s Fishing Owl which roosts in large trees and fishes over the river at night; its spine-chilling call piecing the sleep of guests in the nearby camps. The White-backed Herron is also an elusive night bird that can be seen along the river banks and the oxbow lakes.

The Horn Bills [known locally as the honda-honda] are found in the woodlands. The ground hornbills to who’s deep calls many visitors will wake to – will be a never forgotten call of Africa. These birds live in family groups and walk slowly through the grasses foraging for food.

Many parrots can also be found here, the Brown-necked and brown headed Parrot is common above the hills of Beho Beho camp. Birds of pray include the very large Martial Eagle, Red-necked Falcon, Bateleur Eagle as well as the Hobby and Honey Buzzard.

It is advisable to invest in a specialist bird book and a good pair of binoculars when coming on safari. In-between looking for the big game take time to look at the smaller species of animals and thereby making the most of your safari experience. Also check that your guide brings some bird books along in the 4 x 4 safari vehicle.
