Friday, March 5th, 2010

In every poker game, there are winners and losers. Some take home the money, some leave with empty wallets. That’s the way it is. However, some players after winning consistently, or who are new to the game, actually convince themselves they can’t lose. That is a dreadful mistake to make. Every poker player loses sometimes. If you are not ready to accept that you might lose, then you are not ready to play serious poker. You must be mentally prepared to lose, and sometimes to encounter a losing streak over multiple games. It happens. How do strong poker online players remain in the game when faced with one bad loss or a string of them? First of all, one must look at poker as one long, continuous game played over many years. There will be trends and spikes. Next, one must examine the reasons behind the losses in order to improve one’s game. Look for the leaks in your game. Have you grown lax about starter hand discipline? Do you play with the same people frequently who have now come to know you and your tactical style? Are there newer, stronger players entering the game, and have you adjusted to their play? Poker players must continually examine their game, and strive to improve it with new strategies and styles. When your are losing, then you need to take a hard look at yourself to find out why and take steps to correct your mistakes.

Taxes on International Poker Games

Monday, January 4th, 2010

If you are a U.S. based poker players, you probably spend your time on a lot of foreign based poker rooms. Many players find these easier to use because they offer all of the conveniences of the U.S. based poker sites, but with less of the legal red tape. Before you escape to foreign sites on a regular basis however, you need to realize that all the legal red tape is there for a reason. If you intentionally sidestep the legal details, you are still responsible for all the laws and gaming regulations that apply to U.S. based payers. First and foremost among these binding restrictions is the fact that you are obligated to pay taxes on your winnings no matter where the casino is located. It does not make a difference to the Tax Man if you make your money in Las Vegas or Monaco, they still want their cut. You are under the same obligation to report income from overseas poker sites as you are from the local variety. If you choose to ignore U.S> law just because you are using an overseas website, you will face serious repercussions if the IRS ever finds out. The risk is not worth the reward in this case, because those guilty of tax evasion can be sentence to hard jail time.

Best Hands for Cracking Aces

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

We all love to pick up aces, but what almost certainly feels even better than looking down and seeing those rockets is cracking them with weirder cards. Any old fool can win with aces, but playing to crack them comes with the promise that when you make your poker hand, you will often get paid off in a great way.

The hands that aces most thoroughly dominates are the hands that other online poker players tend to push with. Big pairs and AK and AQ are very dominated, being more then a 6 to 1 dog. In fact, smaller pairs like sixes have a better chance against AA than pairs like KK do, as sometimes when the K does hit the Ace can end up making a straight, while a 6 will never help aces.

The best hand for cracking aces is jack ten suited, as it flops the nut straight more commonly than any other hand. Middle and small suited connectors like this have the best odds for breaking the big pair, which is why they are so commonly popular among pro online poker players. When you can get in for cheap with these cards it can be very valuable when you do make your hand, as the aces will often have to pay you off.

Read carefuly, ’cause our bowling pro shop’s introduction to the Top 5 Bowling Tips stand as essential reading. Pros in a nearby bowling pro shop want bowlers harness bowling zen mental toughness. Just like a lot of sports, aim the balls at the pins and let them roll. Just kidding. Okay, so it’s more complicated than that. No worry, we can make sure you’re rolling the bowling ball correctly.

First, invest a little in tailored bowling supplies at a nearby bowling pro shop. You’ll notice a difference with your own stuff. It’s no joke, have your personal ball drilled for custom finger holes, and you’ll never go back. A well selected bowling ball can make a substantial improvement in your game. The same goes for having comfortable bowling shoes that smell fresh, look good and help your foot work.

Since you went ahead and found comfortable bowling ball and shoes, listen to the second best bowling tip: taking aim. While you face the pins, try not to focus on the pins. Line up using the arrows like a barrel of a gun. Ever noticed them? You’ll find it more effective to aim for a an aid marker which sits closer. For it to work right, include it as part of your routine to aim from the same position on the floor on every attempt. Roll from the same place, in the same way and you can adjust your marksmanship.

Do you ever wonder how pros roll with curves, for proper speed and ball control? That makes the third-most essential bowler tip. It’s all in the ball type. Many even semi-pro bowlers regularly roll several types of bowling balls to get heavy pin action, selected precisely for where they are. Word of warning: intermediates might want to work with just one, and steer clear of a ball that weighs a ton. Some avid bowlers opt for bowling balls with extra surface. However you should know these balls can make even some well known pros seem like beginners. That’s our first 3 bowling tips. There will be more next week.

What’s that Word

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

online poker has many colorful terms, with some recent additions to the vocabulary often used by narrators on televised poker and jeux de casino matches. Here’s an explanation to some of the terms you might hear during televised games: * Back door – when a player makes a hand using the last two cards on the board * Belly buster or gut shot – the long-shot inside straight draw. * Blank – a card hits the board that does not help anyone’s hand. * Case Card – the one card in the deck that can complete a player’s hand. For instance, if a player has pocket 3s, and one player has folded a 3, then the player with the pair needs the “case” 3 card to improve to a set. * Crack – when a online pokerplayer’s hand improves to beat an already made hand, i.e. a player with pocket 5s hits another one on the flop to crack an opponent’s pocket Aces. * Drawing Dead – a player continues to bet into a pot even though that player’s hand cannot beat an already made hand. Only games with pocket cameras reveal these situations, such as a player drawing to a straight when another has already made a flush. * Rabbit Hunt – when a player folds but asks to see the cards that would have come had the hand continued. * Rainbow – a flop that has three different suits * Scoop – when a player wins the main pot plus any side action * Splash the pot – when a player tosses chips into the pot instead of neatly placing them in clear sight where the amount can be verified. It’s considered bad etiquette to splash the pot. * Wired – a pocket pair

American Express Black Card

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009
The American Express Centurian Card, or Black Card as it is popularly known, has become a symbol of status for the ultra-wealthy.
Shrouded in a cloak of secrecy since its inception, the black card started as nothing more than a conspiracy theory in the 80’s when rumors of a black-colored card offering dignitaries and celebrities unlimited spending power and after-hours access to high-end stores began to circulate. American Express decided to capitalize on this free marketing buzz and in October 1999 released the black Centurian card by invitation only to selected holders of its Platinum Card. The Amex Centurion Card originally had an annual fee of $1,000.
So what’s so great about a black card? Well, first of all it is reportedly made of titanium, and apart from the seething look of envy waiters will give you when dining at fancy restaurants the card does come with several perks. Rumors suggest that using the card will get you a free companion ticket when purchasing full priced airfare on most airlines. You also get access to airport clubs, and free upgrades on most airlines and hotels are also rumored to exist. You get a free night’s stay per year at LXR Luxury Resorts. Personal shopper services are also part of the package for retailers such as Escada, Gucci, and Neiman Marcus. There seem to be other perks throughout the year such as free gift cards with values as high as $2,000 to luxury retailers.
Although there is no information available to the general public on the American Express website about the Centurian card, the latest reports suggest that in order to obtain one you must spend at least $250,000 on your platiunum card in one year and then call and ask for an invitation, or simply spend between $50,000-$100,000 per year for 5 to 10 years and wait for a formal invitation. Apparently the waiting list is quite long. Be warned though, the annual fee is $3,000 and a one-time $5,000 fee applies when ordering the card.
