Phoenix Needs Revamp
Thursday, January 22nd, 2009
After the big trade that brought superstar center, Shaquille “The Diesel” O’Neal, from the Miami Heat to the Phoenix Suns’ fold, everybody has wondered whether the aging behemoth still has what it takes to win one more championship and help a team that has been dying to get one. The answer up to this moment is still unclear.
But what the team needs is to revamp its lineup and get fresher talent; this much is crystal clear. Undoubtedly, the Suns are the masters of the “run and gun” offensive. With aging players running the show however, winning a championship will definitely be harder this time around.
Here are the Suns most probable options:
Get a point guard to replace Nash when he is taken off the court. The Suns cannot and must not rely on him too much. Asking Suns’ shooting guard Leandro Barbosa to play point is suicide. Molding reserve point guard D.J. Strawberry to become a more effective player is a road the Suns management must take.
Find another big guy to complement Shaq and power forward Amare Stoudemire. The acquisition of Robin Lopez to play center is a good move. However, he needs more training and experience to be an effective presence in the middle.
Get a scorching scorer to relieve Stoudemire and share the scoring load. Alando Tucker fits the bill. The guy is a great scorer who can finish strong. Pair him with Nash and they will both do wonders.
