Celebrating the Holidays

Friday, January 2nd, 2009

Everybody knows how dull life would be without all the fun, games, food and decorations of holiday celebrations. Holidays are also the only time when old friends and families can get together for dinner or a day out. Take for example, if you had been away from home for a long time, you’d surely want to go home for Thanksgiving Day or Christmas. Holiday celebrations are also a way of recognizing and celebrating our culture and heritage. For instance, people around the world celebrate their independence days to remind themselves of the glorious day when they became a free people. Therefore, Holiday celebrations bring joy, rest and comfort to many people.

Holiday parties can be fun but planning and organizing, and ordering supplies can be a headache if you are not organized. This is because a holiday party requires a lot of food, drinks and decorations that require advanced planning. Make a list of all the supplies you will need for the occasion and make sure everything’s in order before the party. For example, if you’re planning to throw a Halloween party, make sure you have all the necessary props like tombstones, cobwebs, pumpkin heads etc. For a Holiday party, order food that are not too expensive but make it tasty with a variety. As for music, get CDs that go well along with the spirit of the holiday.

Holiday party games are a fun way to keep the guests entertained. Lots of free party games are available online. Take traditional party games and convert them into the holiday theme. For example, musical chairs can be played to Hanukkah music. And, Pin the Tail on the donkey can be altered to pin the red nose on Rudolph.

Holiday party decorations should follow a theme and match from beginning to end. The party invitations set the tone of the event as to whether it is fancy or casual. The colors used in the invitation should match the party decorations, party supplies centerpieces and party favors. Carefully thought should be taken when purchasing the party favors. Personalized party favors create a lasting memento of the festivities.

The Holiday’s history is an educational way to celebrate at the party. The history gives more meaning to the event and reminds us of why we celebrate. Fun interesting activities can easily be incorporated into the celebration. For example, a Thanksgiving coloring placemat with an interesting fact would help to keep the kids busy. So think outside of the box and be creative!

Florida Beachfront Rentals - Finding Florida Beachfront Vacation Homes

Friday, January 2nd, 2009

Florida beachfront rentals are a great way to enjoy a Florida vacation. Florida beachfront rentals and Florida beachfront vacation homes can be found in all the most popular beach areas year-round. Besides the fabulous Florida beaches you have to choose from, there’s so much to do while on vacation.

You can easily find Florida beaches that are great for walking, swimming and beachcombing. Salt-water fishing right off the beach is a fun way to have a chance to enjoy very fresh seafood. Of course, local restaurants will await you if your sea bounty comes up short that day. There’s a wide variety of water sports such as fishing, sailing, jetskiing, parasailing, scuba diving, canoeing, kayaking and more to be found in the larger Florida beach towns. Surfing in Florida can be extremely fun, as you can find waves for amateur and experienced surfers alike. Conquering large waves makes ones adrenaline rush like crazy.

With so much to enjoy while at the Florida beaches, why stay in a cramped hotel or motel room at a time when you want to really relax and enjoy your time together? Instead of being stuck in a single hotel room, you can be together while having your own rooms with the space and comfort that comes with Florida beachfront vacation homes.

Is having your privacy important? There is very little privacy in a hotel room, of course. Florida beachfront rentals come with privacy. How about a bedroom for mom and dad with separate beds and rooms for the kids or friends? Everyone sleeps better! After all, isn’t the idea to rest up while on vacation?

Bathrooms? In a hotel or motel, there will likely be only one bathroom. You’ll enjoy two or more bathrooms in Florida beachfront vacation homes. Use the refrigerator to keep the drinks chilled and enjoy anytime you want. And you might want to sit down to a home-cooked meal made in your Florida beachfront rentals home.

If you are staying in a hotel or motel, in the commons area, you’re sharing it with strangers. In Florida beachfront rentals, you share the common space with your family and friends, the way you probably want it while on vacation!

What is the fastest and best way to find Florida beachfront rentals? Online, of course! Online, you can actually see the properties where you might want to stay.

Whether you will vacation during the hot busy summer months, the leisurely fall months or in winter with Florida’s non-freezing beauty, you’ll be glad you stayed in one of the thousands of the Florida beachfront vacation homes. Check them out today for your next fun Florida vacation.

Trooping the Colour, Bangkok - the King’s Birthday Parade

Friday, January 2nd, 2009

Trooping the Colour in Bangkok is an annual ceremony at the
Royal Plaza for officers and men of the King’s Guard to pledge
their allegiance and offer birthday blessings to their King.

Held on 2 December 2005, three days before the 78th birthday
of King Bhumipol Adulyadej, the event was televised live
nation-wide from 1645 hours on all channels.

The 12 contingents of 2,000 officers and men representing
battalions of the King’s Guard from all three services marched
down Ratchadamnoen Avenue, resplendent in their colourful
ceremonial uniforms and busbies, an array of scarlet, blue,
green, yellow and white.

Led by their officers and the Colour parties each bearing the
standard that is the pride of every fighting unit, the troops
marched under the arches bearing the King’s photographs to
take up positions at the Royal Plaza.

Located at the end of Ratchadamnoen Avenue, the Royal Plaza
is where the revered King Rama V Equestrian Monument
stands against the Ananda Samakhom Throne Hall with its
stately dome in the background.

On entering the Royal Plaza, the column halted, turned
smartly to the left in extended order to face the Royal Pavilion
and await the arrival of His Majesty.

Trooping the Colour officially commenced with the arrival of
His Majesty King Bhumipol at 1715 hours to the strains of the
Royal Anthem. The Colours were lowered as a mark of respect.

King Bhumipol in his scarlet tunic and black busby reviewed
the troops in a yellow open hood Rolls Royce accompanied by
Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Crown
Prince.

After the troop review, the Supreme Commander, Service
Chiefs and their Chiefs-of-Staff assembled before the Royal
Pavilion. To mark the occasion of the King’s Birthday on 5
December, which is also National Fathers’ Day, the Supreme
Commander presented a ceremonial tray of flowers to His
Majesty the King, the father of the nation.

The Royal Plaza resounded with 2,000 voices in unison, led by
the Supreme Commander, pledging allegiance to the longest
reigning monarch in the world. To the booms of a 21-gun salute,
the King’s yellow pennant was floated up in a huge balloon,
followed by 7,200 balloons.

In his speech, His Majesty the King thanked the Royal Guard
for their good wishes and loyalty. Stressing the current threats
faced by the nation, he urged all troops to discharge their
duties diligently.

The bugle call at 1810 hours signaled the start of the highlight
of Trooping the Colour. The 12 contingents of the King’s
Guard marched proudly past the Royal Pavilion, with the
battalion that served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars in the
vanguard.

In the wake of the marching column, mounted on shiny steeds,
a cavalry troop of lancers in dazzling brass helmets with blue
plumes added élan to Trooping the Colour.

When the Royal Guard returned to their original positions, the
military band, which doubled up as an equally good choir,
rendered a harmonious song of blessing to His Majesty, a
fitting end to a grand parade.

Trooping the Colour ended at 1840 hours as the Royal
motorcade drove past the troops towards the Ananda
Samakhom Throne Hall, which was bathed in a golden glow of
lights.

From the ranks of the Royal Guard rose three hearty cheers,
“Long Live the King!”

Appreciate the grandeur of the Ananda Samakhom Throne Hall.

Dance Of Ecstasy, With The Madding crowd!

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

It was my hip and trendy cousin Riya, fresh from a throbbing life in Mumbai who came out with a rather opinionated statement–”there’s not much of nightlife in Kolkata”. And there stood I, the sucker for the tastes and essences of Kolkata, glaring at her ignorance of the new avatar it has come up with. “Well”, I grinned, “if City Center, the plush Shoppers’ Stop or Metro Plaza has not taught you what a metamorphosis our city has gone through, you had better jived out at one of our discotheques to eat up what you uttered right now!”

In fact, what we wanted was an out-and-out experiential fun event. And in our quest, we landed up in “Tantra”, the idyllic hotspot of lovers and pals, foot-tapping teenyboppers and lustful party-animals. The electrifying dance floor at Tantra was hot, reflecting enough of style, panache and oomph. My cousin Riya was flattered to see the hippest crowd of Kolkata dance into the wee hours, which, in a way pampered her flamboyant lifestyle. Cherishing the coquetry and live music, I went on tapping my feet at the celebrated hub, the Mecca of the DJs and VJs performing at each weekend. Being in the media, I had already swallowed plenty of juicy scoops of how and why “Tantra” happens to be a plain titillating experience and a provoking “singles’ corner” for umpteen members as well as non-members. Some girls I knew keep harping on how lucky they have been to bump into their “prince charmings” at the dance floors. And there I was, tasting every bit of the bragging clubbing circuit of the City of Joy, wild party animals rocking the disc floors, DJs spinning the turnables, and last, but not the least, hot models creating a stir with their plunging tops tickling male fantasies. All these make for good scoop for the illustrious Page 3’s, huh? And coupled with a glimpse of a hot celeb action, who can say, the next MMS story may originate right over here?

Jokes apart, what I liked in particular that night at Tantra was an amazing ambience to replicate the abundance of fun and frolic existing in Kolkata, the proverbial City of Joy. Besides, there were the custom sound systems tailor-made to suit the required ambience in each area. With a superb dance floor perfect for some wild partying, it was great to see the go-go dancers add color and gaiety to the mélange of green and orange. We had gala time with a classic selection of wine and beer at the Onyx Bar, while I really regretted not being a member of the Bodhi Bar, which frequenters say, is simply exquisite.

All said and done, we witnessed an upsurge of young souls, with a song on their minds, a spring in their steps, while some money was still there in our wallets. Swinging legs until four in the morning, I chuckled while my beautiful cousin ate up her words and acknowledged that this dance club attracts the city’s hippest crowd. “Kolkata has really grown up, you see”, was all I said.

Coming Up: An Interview with Mony Dojeiji Who Walked 5000 Km from Rome to Jerusalem - For Peace

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

Since I started this website I have had an opportunity to connect with many fascinating people and Mony Dojeij is certainly one of them. My good friend Sue Kenney connected me with Mony, and when I first talked to her by telephone in her new home in the beautiful Atlantic seaside town of Cadiz in Spain I knew I had connected with another kindred spirit.

Mony has an interesting background. Born of Lebanese parents she came to Canada at the age of 10 and grew up in Ottawa and Toronto. Mony also experienced some early mid-life questions and realized that her career and stressful lifestyle as a Microsoft sales executive were no longer satisfying for her.

Mony quit and decided to walk the Camino de Santiago, another pilgrim on this ancient, often life-transforming journey. While walking the Camino, Mony realized that she wanted to do something for peace and the idea germinated that she would go on a long journey from Rome to Jerusalem to promote peace.

She is going to tell us about her story on this 5000 km long walk that took her 13 months through 13 countries. Along the way, the universe protected her and many amazing coincidences that in effect weren’t coincidences at all, came together to lead her life in a completely new direction. This long walk taught her many lessons about people, about herself, and about life in general.

Soon you’ll read about these extended journeys that completely transformed one woman’s life and about Mony’s big plans for the future.

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas - How to Tap in to the Holiday Publicity Bonanza

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

If your product or service can be given as a gift, a publicity
windfall awaits at the end of the year - but you need to start
working in June. Each December, media outlets cover the newest,
the hottest and the most unusual Holiday gifts. The reporters
assigned to develop these pieces typically depend on two sources
of information:

1. Phone interviews with local store owners

- and -

2. Press materials that have been sent by publicity seekers.

Let’s deal with Point 1. Here’s a cool trick: In early
November, write a letter to stores and major websites that carry
your product. Remind them that they may be hearing from
journalists soon about hot gift ideas, and request that they
consider mentioning your product when that happens. Point out a
few reasons why your product is the newest, coolest, best or
whatever. Ask the vendor to drop you an e-mail or give you a
call if a story results that mentions your product.

Now, on to old-fashioned publicity. When to contact the media
depends on the publication or program’s lead time (how far in
advance of publication or airing the material is developed).
Magazines like Woman’s Day have a lead time up to six months, so
get materials to them now. Newspapers have a lead time as short
as a week for feature material, so send materials in November. In
between are wire services, medium-lead magazines, “in-flight”
magazines and others. To learn the lead time of a particular
media outlet, call the editorial department. If that doesn’t
work, try the advertising department.

What you send should be kept simple — a press release about your
product/service, a pitch letter explaining why it’s such a great
gift idea, and, if applicable, a disk with color product photos.
See our articles “How to Write a Great Pitch Letter”
http://www.publicityinsider.com/pitch.asp and “How to Write a
Great Press Release” http://www.publicityinsider.com/release.asp
for more details.

As you craft the materials, think about where your
product/service fits. Based on its nature, cost, rarity or
usefulness, it may work with a variety of typical Christmas Gift
stories such as: Great Stocking Stuffer Ideas, Gifts for
Teenagers, Gifts for the Person Who Has It All, Gifts for
Executives, Gifts that Relax, etc. By suggesting a category for
your product, rather than simply stating “Here’s a product that
would make a nice holiday gift”, you’re making yourself stand out
– and maybe even giving the journalist an idea for a story angle
that he or she wouldn’t have thought about otherwise. Either
way, your chances of getting coverage are greatly improved.

Mount Blanc Increases in Volume since 2004 According to Experts

Monday, December 29th, 2008

New elaborate GPS measurements made on the 17-18th Aug have proven that Mount Blanc amounts to 4810.6 m. Mount Blanc is covered by a deep ice-cap which has augmented by 2.15 m in only 2 yrs moreover more unexpectedly the amount of the snow and ice has just about doubled . Leastwise that is according to the experts.

The bulk of snow and ice was figured for the initial time in 2001. It worked out to be 14500 cubic meters above 4750 meters. It comprised merely 13900 cubic metres in 2004 perhaps owing to the heat wave with +ve temperatures even at 5000 meters altitude. Notwithstanding the ice has just about increased twofold since then and nowadays measures 21000 cubic metres.

Chamonix village’s respected local weather man Stanley Hess stated the increment in the mass of the ice-cap is among the contrary outcomes of global warming: Snowfall has not increased overall in the Alpes only with global warming we’re seeing additional hot prevailing westerly winds that bring in rain at lower altitudes but during summer this results in significant snowfall that settles higher up than 3600 metres elevation thus the mass bulk of the ice is growing. Compare that to the situation during winter time where snow crystals are very cold and are carried by wind so do not rest on the top.

Chamonix ski resort is not just famous for Mont-Blanc it is also a well renowned snowboarding field and climbing mecca with many ski deals and accommodation bargains to be had. Furthermore at just one hour from Geneva it is ideal for a ski weekend.

Scary halloween Masks

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

There are countless Halloween masks available today. At Halloween specialty stores and online shops, you will find a mask in the likeness of every ghoul, alien, and creepy character of any and every variety. Everyone, from heroes like Spiderman and Superman, to movie bad guys, like Freddy Kruger, The Alien, and Hellraiser’s Pin Head, are available in the form of latex. You will even find Halloween masks of today’s most popular politicians, and masks of obscure characters like, zombie vikings, alien clowns, and mad scientists.

The price of a Halloween mask depends on it’s quality, subject, and the materials used to create it. You can pay anywhere from $30 to $300 and up for a high-quality mask. Expect to pay more for detailed masks of today’s most popular characters from movies and television. Many Halloween masks are collector’s pieces, true works of art — and they are priced accordingly! Masks costing over $500 often include human hair, foam filled heads, and intricate custom paint jobs.

The level of detail and animation in some Halloween masks is truly impressive. Masks are first sculpted by artists. The artist sculpts a head, or a full bust out of clay. A cast of this bust is made, and then that cast is used repeatedly, to make identical latex masks. After that, the masks are painted, and extras like eyeballs, adornments, and hair are added.

When shopping for Halloween masks, remember that some may impair visibility. Also, latex gets hot, so try to say cool while wearing a mask for extended amounts of time!

James writes for Ghoulish Halloween, a site that tries to entertain and inform. For more great Halloween mask ideas, visit our Halloween Masks section.
